Students worldwide study at UWC Colleges based on the following offer types: 

Full All Inclusive Scholarship: 

this offer covers tuition fees, room and board, IB exam registration fees, curricular field trips, Project Week expenses, visa and travel expenses (flights to/ from the college and one return flight for the summer holidays), pocket money and any other reasonable expenses to be incurred by the beneficiary student. 

Full Scholarship: 

this offer covers tuition fees, room and board, IB exam registration fees, curricular field trips, Project Week expenses. 

Up-to Fully Funded Needs Based Scholarship: 

this offer covers tuition fees, room and board, IB exam registration fees, curricular field trips. Very important: the college requires financial documents from the nominated student and will conduct a financial need assessment. Based on the assessment, the college will award a scholarship "up to" fully funded amount, but not necessarily. Colleges and nominated candidates' families discuss financial offers individually. 

Partially-Funded Needs Based Scholarship: 

this offer covers tuition fees, room and board, IB exam registration fees, curricular field trips. Very important: the college requires financial document from the nominated student and will conduct a financial need assessment. Based on the assessment, the college will award a scholarship "up to" the maximum sum they offer, but not necessarily the maximum sum. Colleges and nominated candidates' families discuss financial offers individually. 

Unfunded (Place only): 

all costs are born by the student. In this case, the cost may be covered by the student's family from various sources: their own money, private donations, fundraising, appeal to the National Committees, in case the NC in that country is fundraising to support scholarships. 

Please note that the UWC Romania National Committee does not offer financial support to Romanian UWC students. 

At UWC, we believe that a top-class education should be made available to all students, independent of their financial needs. That is why, with the help of our generous donors and partners around the world, 65% of students in their IB Diploma Programme years receive either full or partial financial assistance, which is dependent on need and allocated based on a financial assessment.

Students are awarded places at a UWC school or college based purely on how well they meet our selection criteria. If they are successful, parents or guardians need to complete a financial assessment which is completely separate from the selection process. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need. This helps ensure scholarships go to students who need them most.

Each year, the UWC International Office allocates offers to the +150 National Committees all over the world. The number, location, and type of offers each country receives vary from one year to another. 

Over the past 20 years, Romania has been allocated the following types of offers: full all inclusive scholarships, up-to fully funded needs-based scholarships and partial needs-based scholarships to all of the 18 UWC Colleges in the world. 

We publish the offers annually, usually in October, on our website and Facebook page. 

1. Directly to UWC International Office, via the UWC Global Selection Programme, in this case, please refer to the places offered annually within this specific programme. 

The UWC Global Selection Programme is designed for those: 

• Who wish to apply 10-15 months before the beginning of the school year, and
• Who can pay the full fee for the UWC school or college to which they are successful in applying
• Looking to attend a specific school or college

2. Through the UWC Romania National Committee. In this case:

• you can only apply for the offers allocated to Romania by the UWC International Office 
• you go through the national selection process 

Which Application Route is Best for You?

Whichever route a candidate chooses, the application will be assessed against UWC’s core selection criteria. Please note that a candidate may only submit one application per year to study the IB Diploma Programme at UWC. You may not apply through two different UWC national committees or through a UWC national committee and the UWC Global Selection Programme concurrently.

If you apply through the UWC Romania National Committee (or any other National Committee), the answer is no, because students apply to the UWC movement, rather than an individual UWC college. Applicants can usually name their schools or colleges of preference, but UWC national committees nominate students across all 18 UWC schools and colleges at their own discretion, depending on availability of places; and the school or college admissions department makes the final decision on whether to accept a nominated candidate.

When you submit your application, you are applying for any of the offers available at that time. Following the selection process, the UWC Romania National Committee decides the best match between a student and a particular college and will come back to you with the offer. If you accept the offer, your nomination will be send to that particular UWC College and you will enter the final stage of the selection process. 

If you apply through the UWC Global Selection Programme, the answer is yes, applicants can choose to apply to one or more participating UWC colleges. UWC Global Selection Programme applicants are not eligible for financial assistance.

The UWC national selection process is organised annually, by the UWC Romania National Committee. It usually takes place between October and March. You may find all the necessary information here. 

The Application Form is what you fill in for the national selection process. In this form, you are not required to provide any financial information. 

The Nominated Candidate Form is the more complex form that includes financial information and other forms, etc. that UWC Romanian National Committee prepares together with you, after you receive a nomination, following the national selection process. This more complex form is sent to a particular UWC college, in support of your nomination. Based on this form, the UWC college will make you a firm offer and decide up-to what sum you are eligible for financial support. 

The application form contains sections in both Romanian and English, please follow the instructions carefully. 

The application form consists of an an on-line form with multiple sections. You must fill in all the sections. You must also attach a series of documents. You must also have at least two recommendations form your teachers/ tutors/ leaders of extra-curricular activities. 

If you fail to fill in all sections or attach the required documents/ present the recommendations, your application will be considered incomplete and it will not be accepted for the national selection process. 

Yes. You may attach any document, certificate, award, links to art portfolio, etc. that you feel it is important for you and helps the members of the selection committee know you better. 

We do not specifically require such as certificate and you will not be disqualified or score lower for not having one, provided you show sufficient proficiency in your written application and interview.

We accept both Romanian or English in case of teachers'/ tutors'/ leaders' of extracurricular activities recommendations. 

Yes. But please note that you can only apply to UWC through only one National Committee. For instance, if you have both Romanian and Canadian citizenship, you must choose just one National Committee (Romania or Canada) when applying. If you apply through both, you will be disqualified. 

The selection process is competitive, with limited offers and the general criteria are set by the UWC International Organisation. We take into account your academic results but we place much emphasis on your extra-curricular activities, voluntary work, critical thinking, your involvement with the community, proven record of actions you took to entail change, how well does your profile & personality & knowledge of the world fit with the UWC organisation and its core values. 

With one exception (UWC Waterford, Africa), the UWC academic year starts in August and ends in May, with Christmas and spring breaks.  For further information, please review the individual colleges' pages.

Most of the Colleges have their own campus. Some are based in small villages/ towns. They all have study halls, library, cafeteria, housing, labs, sport fields, medical staff and emergency rooms in their close vicinity. Please read further about what every college offers here. 

Each college has a guardianship and support system for all students. Every student has a mentor/ tutor, all residences have a supervisor (house-parent). Psychologists and social workers are also on-campus to assist students. Please read further about what every college offers here. 

If you are a concerned parent, you may also get in touch with the staff of a particular college to find out more. 

In case you will study in a country that requires EU citizens to have a visa, the college will provide you with all the necessary papers to support your visa application process. However, it is only you in person who needs to apply for the visa and make sure you comply with all formalities. 

Some colleges allow you to remain on campus. Others offer placement with local families. A college representative will give you all these details once you have been accepted as a student. 

Most countries recognise the IB Diploma. 

You will have a pre-university orientation program during your 2nd year at UWC and you will have both the time and the support to choose where and when you will continue with your university studies.
